Faculty-Led Program: Culture & Nursing in London

Updated: Apr 2, 2019

Attention to all UIU Students: The application deadline for this program has extended to this coming Friday on April 5, 2019!

The program is in London and the travel dates are July 27th to August 4th, 2019. RN-BSN Majors and CEP students are encouraged to apply to this program. It is an opportunity to explore a different culture and gain knowledge about nursing in another country. This program is also suitable for any students who have taken nursing courses or have a background in healthcare.

Professor Sheila Crook-Lockwood is the Assistant Professor of Nursing and an academic advisor at the UIU Cedar Rapid Center. This is the second year for the program and she has led it both times. Professor Crook-Lockwood believes that during the program students will enjoy exploring and learning about nursing in London, as well as visiting a hospice facility there. This program is eye-opening for students as they will have the chance to compare London’s private hospital system and the hospitals of its National Healthcare System.

Students can earn four credits for this class, while also discovering London. Students will learn about the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, and London’s history with the field or nursing.
