By participating in UIU Faculty-Led Programs, students can earn credit while studying abroad for ten to twelve days with their classmates. Faculty-led Programs give students from all fields an opportunity to visit different countries during their summer or spring break.
Assistant Professor of Education, Professor Sue Burrack, has led programs in Europe in places such as Paris, London, and Normandy. She has discovered that these programs give students exposure to different nations and cultures. These programs can inspire students to travel in the future and also to be aware of the world at large. The experiences that students gain from these programs can also help them in their future careers.
The world is rapidly changing and becoming more diverse. Professor Burrack believes that studying abroad can broaden students’ horizons, especially in developing their openness to different cultures and traditions. As a result of this, she believes that students develop their cross-cultural understanding and communication skills. These are important skills for any individual in the workplace, but is very important in the field of Education. For example, a teacher needs to be able to understand students who have different cultural backgrounds and traditions.
All UIU majors are welcome to participate in UIU Faculty-Led Programs. This is a chance to explore another culture while also earning college credit. Traveling is an adventure and can be life-changing! I believe that students should try take advantage of these opportunities to be able to travel internationally while in college.
